Angela To

Born in Hong Kong, Angela To immigrated to Canada where she studied fine art at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, Canada.  She later earned her MFA from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and remained in the United States to peruse her burgeoning art practice and a teaching career.  Her work is collected in the USA and Canada; she maintains a studio in the Southern Tier of New York where she is a professor of Art at Alfred University.

Angela To's paintings possess expressive brushwork and a surreal quality of light, they are about discovering the sensuality of paint, the pleasure of building up surfaces and the liberation of erasure.  The images are developed through a layering of riotous color with ordered pattern; they are the result of  close observations of natural ephemera such as cloud formations, and the play of color and light on surface.
